In support of the directives of the Crisis Management Plan, the Safety & Security Office will facilitate training activities and drills necessary to ensure the college’s ongoing emergency readiness. This training will involve a combination of orientation and education sessions, tabletop exercises, walk-through drills, functional drills, evacuation drills and full-scale drill exercises.

Grief Counseling and Personal Tragedy Training is available annually through in-service training by contacting Counseling Services at (417) 447-6974. - Fire extinguisher usage training is available annually through in-service training for those employees requiring the training.
- Hazardous Material Aware Training is available annually through in-service training for those employees requiring the training.
- Communications Training for emergency notifications is available annually through in-service training by contacting the Director of Safety and Security at (417) 447-6985.
In October 2006 The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop D, S.W.A.T. Team conducted a series of tactical training exercises at the Richwood Valley Campus to learn the layout of the campus and to prepare for an actual active shooter incident.
On Friday, April 24, 2009 OTC in conjunction with the Springfield, Missouri Police Department
conducted an active shooter scenario training in Lincoln Hall on the OTC Springfield Campus. The scenario training involved 30 OTC faculty, staff and student volunteers who role played as shooting victims and hostages. There were approximately 35 Springfield Police Officers including patrol officers, special response team officers, k-9 officers with dogs and command staff involved. There were also two St. Johns emergency room physicians and ten paramedics involved in the training scenario.
The training involved two separate scenarios. The first was an active shooter and the second was a barricaded armed suspect with hostages in a class room. The training scenario started around 3:00 pm and ended around 10:15 pm.
OTC media services interviewed the role play victims and hostages after the training scenario and made a DVD telling about their experiences and what they learned from the training scenario. The DVD was shown to faculty, staff and students during the fall 2010 semester.
Training Scenario (Richwood Valley Campus)
On Friday, April 9, 2010 OTC in conjunction with Christian County, Missouri law enforcement, Christian County 911, Christian County Emergency Management Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted an active shooter scenario training on the OTC Richwood Valley Campus in the Life Science Center. The training scenario involved every law enforcement agency in Christian County, Missouri to include the MSHP Troop D SWAT Unit, Ozark, Missouri Police SWAT Unit and patrol units from Ozark, Nixa, Clever, Billings, and the Christian County Sheriffs Department. Nixa and Ozark Fire Rescue units along with Cox Medical Center set up a triage site on the campus to treat role play shooting victims. The training involved two separate scenarios. The first was an active shooter and the second was a barricaded armed suspect with hostages in a class room. The training scenario started around 3pm and ended around 7:30pm.
On Friday, March 18, 2011 Springfield Police SWAT Team members conducted a series of tactical training exercises in the ITTC building on the Springfield Campus.
- Tornado drills will be conducted annually on every OTC campus and Education Center in conjunction with the state wide tornado drill in April.
- Fire drills will be conducted for every building on all campuses and centers annually.
- Red Alert drills will be conducted annually on all campuses and centers.
On Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 1pm OTC conducted a college wide, “Red Alert, Lock Down Drill” on both campuses (Springfield and Richood Valley) and the three enters (Lebanon Center, Waynesville Center and Branson Center). Area law enforcement assisted on the Springfield Campus, Richwood Valley Campus and Lebanon Center. All faculty, staff and students on campus at the time of the drill were required to participate. Telephone, text messaging and email were used to announce the drill and to give the, “All Clear” once the drill was over.
On Thursday, June 21, 2012 OTC Safety and Security inconjuction with MSHP Troop D, Laclede County Sheriff Department and the Lebanon, MO Police Department conducted a active shooter table top exercise at the OTC Lebanon Education Center.
On Thursday, Octobr 4, 2012 at 11am all OTC campuses and centers conducted a, “Red Alert Lock Down Drill. Local law enforcement was at each campus and center as observers during the lock-down drill. All faculty, staff and students on any OTC campus or center at the time of the drill were required to participate in the drill. Telephone, text messaging and email were used to announce the drill and to give the, All Clear” once the drill was over.
