Preventing crime on campus is a collective effort involving the entire campus community. It’s crucial to overcome public apathy, as this is often what criminals rely on. OTC encourages all community members, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors, to report crimes or public safety incidents promptly and accurately.
How to Report:
- Emergency Situations: For immediate police, fire, or EMS assistance, dial 911 from any campus phone or an outside phone.
- Non-Emergency Crimes and Incidents: Contact the OTC Safety & Security Department directly at extension 6911 from any campus phone or 417-447-6911 from an outside phone. Officers are on duty 24/7.
- In-Person Reporting: Visit the Safety and Security Department at the Springfield Campus, Information Commons, Room IC208, or approach any patrolling Safety & Security Officer.
- Online Reporting: Utilize the reporting options available under the Safety & Security tab at OTC CARES Team Reporting Options.
Information to Provide
When reporting, try to give as much detail as possible, such as the location, nature of injuries, descriptions of individuals involved, and an account of the incident. Contact the Safety and Security Office for guidance even if you’re uncertain about what you’ve witnessed or experienced. Reports of sexually based offenses and discrimination incidents can also be directed to the Title IX Coordinator at 417-447-8188.
Response to Reports
The OTC Safety & Security Department is committed to responding promptly to all reports, prioritizing crimes in progress, traffic accidents, and medical emergencies based on the current activity load and the situation’s urgency. An officer will meet with the reporter to gather information and, if necessary, liaise with local law enforcement for further action.
Collaboration with Law Enforcement
In cases of criminal activity, OTC Safety & Security closely cooperates with local law enforcement agencies to establish the nature of the crime and develop a prosecution case, either through the Municipal Prosecutor’s Office or the County Prosecutor’s Office. Incidents involving students are also referred to Student Affairs for potential disciplinary actions in line with campus procedures.
The proactive involvement of the campus community in reporting crimes and emergencies is crucial for maintaining a safe environment at OTC. Your vigilance and prompt reporting can significantly contribute to the safety and security of all campus members.
